What Is IFR + Fluorescent Fabric?

IFR + Fluorescent Fabric combines flame retardant performance with high-visibility fluorescent color to help workers stand out more clearly against their surroundings.

BEGOODTEX's current IFR + Fluorescent range includes BG-L8-802, a 150 cm wide, 335 g/m², 100% FR Polyester fluorescent yellow fabric designed for protective workwear. The current product also incorporates anti-static functionality.

Fluorescent vs. Reflective Fabric

These two functions are different.

Fluorescent fabric uses highly visible colors to improve conspicuity, particularly during daylight and lower-light conditions.

Retroreflective material is designed to return incident light toward its source, making it particularly important when a wearer needs to be visible under vehicle headlights at night.

High-visibility protective clothing may combine fluorescent background material with retroreflective components rather than relying on fluorescent fabric alone. ISO 20471 evaluates both color and retroreflection as part of the complete high-visibility clothing system.

Why Combine Fluorescent Color with Flame Resistance?

Workers in some environments face both visibility hazards and heat or flame hazards.

Fluorescent FR fabrics can therefore be used for protective clothing in road work, transportation, industrial maintenance, utilities, construction, and other environments where workers need to remain visually noticeable while also meeting flame-protection requirements.

The visibility requirement and flame requirement should be evaluated separately according to the actual job hazard.

What Standards Can IFR + Fluorescent Fabric Meet?

BEGOODTEX BG-L8-802 currently lists flame and protective-clothing standards including:

  • EN ISO 11611 — protective clothing for welding and allied processes
  • EN ISO 11612 — protective clothing against heat and flame
  • EN ISO 14116 — limited flame spread protective clothing
  • NFPA 2112 — flame-resistant clothing for industrial flash-fire hazards

These are the standards currently shown on the BG-L8-802 product page.

For high-visibility clothing, ISO 20471 should be considered separately because it evaluates the visibility performance and configuration of the clothing rather than serving as a flame-retardant standard.

The exact flame, visibility, anti-static, and finished-garment test reports should be confirmed for the specific project before ordering.
